The Animus is a Spirit-class saber used by covert operatives of House Benden. Like all sabers in this class, the Animus is compact, lightweight and agile, making it a high speed weapon perfect for lightning quick strikes.
The Animus features a unibody design, meaning the emitter, midsection, and grip are one solid piece. Only the pommel is removable. This makes for an extremely strong and rigid weapon platform, but at the cost of modularity. With only the ability to swap out the pommel, the Animus is a dedicated, purpose-built machine.
Agile precise handling is a hallmark of all Spirit-class sabers and the Animus delivers without compromise. Choke points are featured under the emitter and integrated into the emitter itself. The emitter is vertically vented, allowing for heat dissipation with the side effect of added aesthetics.
For those who prefer a saber staff, the pommel is also a coupler. Two sabers can be joined together to make a staff without any additional parts. A staff is best made with compact hilts, and with a length of only 9.75 inches, the Animus is excellent for this purpose.
Lore:
"Did you know 'backstabber' is considered an insult on other worlds?"
-Knight Joren of House Benden
House Benden is a great house of the Periphery that has remained independent from any political entanglements. The Knights of House Benden feel that discretion is the better part of valor, so you will not find them rampaging across battlefields. These warriors prefer to use the art of subtlety and force shadow to accomplish their objectives while remaining undetected. A Benden Knight is also a master of disguise, using a combination of practical effects as well as force trickery. If you ever meet a Knight of House Benden, you will likely never know... or remember.
House Benden is ruled from the world of Flar, which is the only habitable world in the Kurubat star system. Rather than a single patriarch ruling House Benden, a council of elders makes all decisions in a democratic process which involves every citizen of Flar. This has created a culture where political alliances and intrigue are the keys to power. The Knights of House Benden likely evolved their tactics of stealth and cunning due to these being necessary skills in their society.
As an independent world, these Knights cannot be summoned into service by the Imperium nor the Sovereignty. They have complete discretion to take up missions they feel will benefit their House. Many of these Knights serve in the galaxy's major covert factions, such as the Circle and the Enclave, trading their covert services in exchange for the intelligence resources of these superpowers. While other Knights seek to bring honor and glory to their House, the Knights of Benden seek only the power and influence to maintain the independence of their homeworld and will stop at nothing to achieve this end.
